Some tend to view the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) nationwide initiative, now entering its 53rd year of serving low- to moderate-income taxpayers, households and communities, as a purely transactional method for helping other prepare their tax return each tax season . . . and that is it.

VITA Volunteers, Site Coordinators, even VITA Program Leaders and the Internal Revenue Service relationship managers can get caught up in the logistics of operating VITA sites across the nation, because the complexity of serving taxpayers is no easy task.

When the focus of the initiative's key stakeholders shifts to the purely operational side of VITA, it becomes easy to overlook the deeper, strategic purpose that the nationwide VITA initiative is intended to generate--To Elevate Financial Capability for All (which also happens to be the Mission Statement for FPP Coalition!)

Virtual Session Registrants will receive an e-mail directly from Zoom to access this session.

VITA Volunteers, Intake Specialists/Navigators, Quality Reviewers and Site Coordinators frequently encounter this common situation when serving low- to moderate-income taxpayers . . . the taxpayer wishes to receive their tax refund as quickly as possible, but does not have a current relationship with a bank or credit union.

What to do in that situation?

VITA stakeholders at all levels are encouraged to participate in this interactive, rapid Virtual Session to share their model practices that they have seen be highly effective when serving un- and under-banked taxpayers.

VITA practitioners at all levels are also encouraged to engage in this Virtual Session to tap into the expertise provided by our partners with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) on why it is crucial we become more adept at navigating these crucial moments in the VITA site service cycle.

Additional expertise is offered by the Bank On Florida movement and the FLTaxesOnline.org initiative to solidify the best ways to serve un-and under-banked taxpayers in our communities in Florida and the nation.
