2021 Advance Child Tax Credit Payments will be issued beginning July 15. Eligible families can receive up to $300 per month per child under age 6 and up to $250 per month for children age 6 and above. These payments can truly make a difference in the lives of families. Even those with no earned income or who don’t owe any federal income taxes can still receive the credit, if eligible. However, to receive these advance payments, they must have filed a 2019 or 2020 tax return. Unfortunately, many have not done so.
The Treasury Department and the IRS publicly committed to carrying out a sweeping public awareness campaign to reach all Americans who may be eligible for this financial assistance. As part of this public awareness campaign, the IRS, in conjunction with its community partners and volunteers, will host a series of free tax preparation events in 12 cities for individuals who are eligible for CTC, but have not filed a 2020 tax return. These events are scheduled for June 25-26 and July 9-10.
Please help us in getting the word out about the 2021 Advance Child Tax Payments and the availability of free tax preparation in your area. We are asking that you share this information broadly across your networks to ensure that families who can benefit from this financial assistance are aware of it and know where to get help, if needed. If you can share this information, I would greatly appreciate your feedback as to the number of individuals your outreach efforts have the potential to reach. This can be sent to me by responding to this email.
Attached are two e-posters (Publication 5534 and Publication 5534-A) along with social media messages and tweets. Additionally, Publication 5532, Adv CTC Free Tax Prep Days, lists the sites where the tax preparation services are being offered. This service is being provided by IRS Tax Assistance Centers, community partners, volunteers, and IRS employees.
If there is not an event in your immediate area, please be aware that people who are not required to file a tax return and who did not file in 2019 or 2020 can use the Non-Filer Sign-up Tool on irs.gov.If you are interested in opening your existing VITA/TCE site to help people file returns on these dates, please let me know.
If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact me at 813-302-5607 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org. Thanks for your willingness to contribute to the success of these events and to serve families in your communities in need of this assistance.
