FDIC’s efforts to promote affordable insured bank accounts extend to not only encouraging banks to offer affordable and sustainable bank accounts, but also educating consumers about the importance of having a bank account and equipping consumers with the tools to help them choose the best type of account for their individual needs. 

The COVID-19 pandemic has emphasized the urgency of assisting people in gaining access to affordable and sustainable bank accounts.  Having a bank account is critical for them to receive timely income tax refunds, stimulus payments, and other government payments. The sooner they become engaged in the financial mainstream, the sooner they can become financially stable!
