The COVID-19 pandemic has deepened individual and family financial instability, compounded with a number of new issues, including a looming national eviction crisis. Local government leaders across the country are leveraging the Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) model of free, professional, one-on-one financial counseling as a critical component of their COVID-19 response strategy. Financial Empowerment Centers have helped more than 116,000 clients reduce their debt by over $160 million and increase their savings by $26 million.

Selected local government partners (cities or counties) will receive $20,000 and significant technical assistance for 6-12 months to design and prepare for the launch of a FEC financial counseling initiative. After the Planning Phase, grantees that have met key requirements will be eligible to apply for potential implementation matching grant funds.
