Propel: Fresh EBT Helps SNAP Households Manage Uncertainty

September 11, 2020

While we know the world will only keep changing, Propel will continue to step up to help low-income families access the information and resources they need to navigate these unprecedented times.

The COVID Help Center

When we stood up the COVID Help Center in March, we thought it would be a temporary tool for SNAP households. As we enter the 6th month of this pandemic, The COVID Help Center remains the most used feature inside Fresh EBT with over 2 million visits each month.

As eviction and utility shut-off moratoriums expire and the future of P-EBT remains in limbo, low-income households face mounting uncertainties. That’s why we work with state and nonprofit partners to get timely and critical information out to SNAP households about policy changes and financial assistance programs.

If you have messaging you’d like to share about SNAP, P-EBT, or financial assistance programs in your state, please contact Jen, jen@joinpropel.com.

How P-EBT Helped Families in Michigan

Food insecurity has doubled since the onset of COVID-19 and families with children are particularly at risk. Propel recently published a report in partnership with New America Foundation that found that P-EBT benefits reduced food insecurity among Michigan families. You can read the article here, or download the briefing document.

It has truly been a blessing with me having 5 kids at home out of school it would have been very hard to feed them full time without the P-EBT

Our monthly household pulse surveys also found reduced food insecurity for families who received P-EBT benefits. If you’d like to receive these reports please email Jen, jen@joinpropel.com.
